On Sunday, May 3, from 2:00 – 4:30, the Harvard Club of Washington is going birding! Our location is Riley’s Lock / Seneca Creek in Poolesville, MD, about 10 miles (20 minutes) from the center of Potomac, MD. Whether we see much or any of the annual April/May spring migration of warblers – the “warbler wave,” we are still likely to see such birds as the Great Blue Heron, mallard duck, turkey vulture, cardinal, catbird, red-wing blackbird, kingfisher, and others. We’ll likely stroll 2-3 different half mile “trails.” If we’re more than eight or ten birders, we’ll break into smaller groups just to limit the mob effect.

Meet in the parking lot next to the Riley’s Lock House at 1:50. Late arrivals can meet us on the towpath, heading west. Bring binoculars, a little sunscreen, “mudshoes” (boots not needed) if the towpath is muddy, a bottle of water, and some sharp eyes and ears. Some of us will convene after 4:30 at the Hunter’s Inn at the center of Potomac: Intersection of River Road & Falls Road. Feel free to join us at the après-avian gathering even if you miss the birding… Hey, over there… See it? It’s the Piliated Woodpecker! Wow. It’s stunning!
