From the catalogue of the exhibition by Harold Holzer and Frank J. Williams:

Like the military men who fought under them, for them or against them, all three (Lincoln, Grant and Lee) could not help but inspire tributes. And here the modern viewer can find a beathtaking array of examples. That three private collectors could unite to amass such a handsome trove of such high artisitc quality and such unquestionable historical importance, and during the sesquicentennial of the Civil War-that so many prestigious items were still available for discovery and acquisition-is extraordinary almost beyond comprehension.

We believe that visitors lucky enough to view the orginal treasures first hand when they are exhibited will surely agree.
