The Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Maryland has a unique opportunity to hear a violin concert by Francesca Anderegg, a world-renowned violinist and 2005 Harvard graduate, and her collaborative pianist, Brent Funderburk, followed by an informal wine reception and CD signing with the artists. Francesca asked her agent to contact the H-R Club of Maryland because Francesca and Brent will be on tour in Washington, D.C. during the last week of October. Francesca, thinking about her alma mater, wanted to see if the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Maryland was interested in a private concert in a much more intimate venue. The Club could not pass up this opportunity.
We are very excited to be hosting Francesca and Brent at An die Musik on 409 Charles Street (Second Floor) in Baltimore on Monday, October 28, 2013 for the concert and wine reception, as well as a CD signing. (An die Musik is right near Peabody Institute.) Francesca and Brent are very special performers. During their tour in D.C., they will be performing their "Canciones Populares" program, with classical works exploring the irresistible energy of popular styles and songs and including works of Ravel, Mozart, de Falla, Bartók, and Reinaldo Moya. If any Club members are feeling extra generous and would like to provide further support to Francesca and Brent and their D.C./Baltimore tour, please send a check made out to “H-R Club of Maryland” to Gary Mitchell, 29 Blythewood Road, Baltimore, MD 21210-2401. Please put “For support of music tour” or something similar in the memo line of the check, and we will see that it gets directed to Francesca and Brent. As a personal note, I (Gary Mitchell) am including this option because I think it is extremely generous of Francesca and Brent to offer to do this concert for our Club for very little compensation (after the cost of the venue is deducted from the ticket sales). The classical music business is a tough business, with too little monetary recognition of enormous musical talent. I just wanted to provide this mechanism for Club members (on a purely voluntary basis with no expectations whatsoever) to help offset Francesca’s and Brent’s travel costs and other tour expenses.
