Event Details
On May 8, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Nobel Peace Prize winner and the first female head of state in Africa, will discuss her administration’s development goals and challenges at a Thomson Reuters Newsmaker event in Washington, D.C.. President Sirleaf will share her vision for how in her second-term as president she is guiding her country through a sustained period of peace and transformation.

This Newsmaker will be followed on May 14 by the concluding meeting of the U.N. Secretariat’s High-level Panel to advise on the global development framework beyond 2015 – the target year to meet the Millennium Development Goals. President Sirleaf, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, and Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom are the co-chairs for this post-2015 global development agenda panel and will present the panel’s recommendations to the Secretary-General at that meeting in New York City.

Please join us as we discuss the wider implications of Liberia’s approach to land reform, food security, energy production and human capacity development, and specifically how these inform and provide wider context for how other nations approach development objectives.
