HARVARD NCAA BASKETBALL WATCHING THIS THURSDAY in VA. & DC

HARVARD NCAA BASKETBALL WATCHING THIS THURSDAY: If you’ve been following the excitement shared by the entire global Harvard community, you know the Harvard Crimson Men’s Basketball team has earned a berth in this year’s NCAA March Madness basketball tournament – for the first time since 1946! The Harvard team will play their first game this Thursday, March 15th, at 4:40 pm, and the Harvard Club of Washington is hosting a game-watching party for the D.C.-area Harvard alumni community.

With an Ivy League championship under its belt, a 26-4 record, and a school-record-setting 24 regular-season wins, Harvard’s NCAA invitation is gaining some unexpected attention. In a N.Y. Times article on the team last Wednesday that called the NCAA tournament “one of the biggest stages on the annual American athletic calendar,” Harvard President Drew Gilpin Faust noted that the achievement is bringing together a diverse campus, saying, “The team has been a real community building force. It’s a tribute to the notion of the student-athlete, and it’s happening at the same time as the phenomenon of Jeremy Lin, who was on this team just two years ago and was fully a student here.”

We will gather for the game (currently scheduled for 4:40) for an All-Harvard game-watching party at Mr. Day’s Sports Café in the Plasma Room at 3100 Clarendon Blvd. in Arlington, Va. (one block south of the Clarendon stop on the Metro Orange line at the intersection of Highland St. and Washington Blvd., tel. 703-527-1600, misterdays.com). Tip-off is slated for 4:40pm, this Thursday, March 15th. In DC we will view the game at:
