Join Dartmouth alumni for a ride down the Mathew Henson Trail into the Rock Creek park. We'll get on the Mathew Henson Trail at the end of Rippling Brook Drive in Layhill, MD. This is a shaded and paved multipurpose trail that ends at the Rock Creek Trail. We'll take the Rock Creek Trail down to Beach Drive heading towards Washington, DC. Shortly after crossing the DC line, Beach Drive is closed to cars (weekends only) and opens back up to cars about 16 miles from the start. That is the turn-around for the long ride of 32 miles. Since this a down and back route, your ride can be as short as you want. There are numerous parks with benches and tables to rest or wait for riders to return from the longer route. The route is paved so road or hybrid bikes are recommended, but strong riders will be fine on mountain bikes.

We'll finish at Paul and Brigitta's house, who have been on both of the last two alumni rides, for a pot-luck dinner. Their house is about 4 blocks from the Mathew Henson Trail at the end of Rippling Brook Drive.
