Join the HCW and the Folger Shakespeare Library at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library for a day of poetry and historic speeches.

Join poets Truth Thomas and Naomi Ayala from Cherry Castle Publishing’s poetry anthology “Where We Stand: Poems of Black Resilience” along with actors Fatima Quander and James J. Johnson for the annual Not Just Another Day Off event.
This celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday combines poetry alongside historical speeches from Dr. King, Shirley Chisolm, James Baldwin, and others.
This year the celebration will be in person in the auditorium of the Martin Luther King Jr. branch of the D.C. Public Library.
How to Get There: Green and Red lines to Gallery Place-Chinatown; Blue, Orange, Red & Silver lines to Metro Center; many buses. Parking very limited, if any.

Covid-related Safety Requirements: The library requires masks to be worn at all times during this event. If you have recently tested positive or have symptoms, please do not attend this event. If you are ill, please notify us prior to the start of the event. The Club encourages everyone to be vaccinated and boosted.
