Please join the Harvard Real Estate Alumni Organization for a webinar exploring the design concept of “Missing Middle Housing” and how it can be used to expand housing supply and create integrated communities.  Missing Middle Housing describes a range of house-scale buildings with multiple units (e.g., duplexes, fourplexes, cottage courts, and multiplexes)—compatible in scale and form with detached single-family homes—located in a walkable neighborhood.

Our program will go over the history of Missing Middle Housing, analyze case studies of successful developments, and discuss how Missing Middle Housing can be used in conjunction with other strategies like establishing new urbanist communities.  Our panelists will explain recent academic literature regarding housing affordability discuss how expanding the supply of Missing Middle Housing can help developers provide for-sale housing at middle income price points, and walk through strategies to overcome real-world obstacles such as obtaining community buy-in, amending zoning codes, adapting existing improvements and assembling land and financing.  Our moderator and panelists include a design professional, an academic researcher, a think tank executive, and a strategy consultant.
