Plot summary:
The young Eréndira is forced to sell herself by her grandmother to pay for accidentally burning down the family home. After traveling from town to town in the desert, Eréndira is wed to a young man who loves her deeply. Together they plot an escape. In his innovative adaptation of this novel by Nobel Prize winner García Márquez, Triana turns a tragic tale into black comedy, revealing possibilities never imagined in the original story. In Spanish with English surtitles.
Eréndira and her grandmother make an appearance in One Hundred Years of Solitude, another book by García Márquez. Also included in this story are characters from other Márquez works, such as the spider with the woman's head from "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" and Blacamán the Good from the story "Blacamán the Good: Vendor of Miracles".

GALA’s performance venue is located at 3333 14th Street, NW in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC 20010. The entrance is on 14th Street in the middle of the block between Park Road and Monroe Street. The box office and theater entrance is located on the second floor by stairs or mezzanine level (M) through the elevator
METRO:
GALA Theatre is on 14th Street, one block north of the Columbia Heights Metro Station on the Green line.
DRIVING: From downtown Washington, DC: Go north on 14th Street, NW. After crossing Irving Street (where the Columbia Heights Metro station is located) continue one block north and either turn right on Park Road to access the Giant Parking Garage or continue straight to drop off passengers at the entrance at 3333 14th Street, NW.
From points North, heading South on 295/Route 50/New York Avenue: Take 295 South to Route 50/New York Avenue. From New York Avenue/Route 50 South, turn right on Florida Avenue. Continue straight on Florida which will turn into U Street. Turn right on 14th Street, NW and continue north. After crossing Irving Street (where the Columbia Heights Metro station is located) continue one block north and either turn right on Park Road to access the Giant Parking Garage or continue straight to drop off passengers at the entrance at 3333 14th Street, NW.
From points South, heading North on 395: From 395 cross over the 14th Street Bridge to enter Washington, DC. Continue north on 14th Street for approximately 3.6 miles. After crossing Irving Street (where the Columbia Heights Metro station is located) continue one block north and either turn right on Park Road to access the Giant Parking Garage or continue straight to drop off passengers at the entrance at 3333 14th Street, NW.
PARKING:
There is a parking garage available for GALA patrons in the Tivoli Square Complex. Heading north from downtown DC on 14th Street, take a right on Park Road (heading south on 14th, take a left onto Park Road). Just past the Giant Food Store on the left, there will be an entrance to the parking deck. You will be issued a parking ticket that can be validated in the GALA box office for a $4 flat fee instead of the regular hourly rate. Limited street parking is available on 14th Street, Park Road, and Monroe Street.
Parking is also available in the Target garage off of Park Road on the West side of 14th street (between 14th and 16th streets). Cost is $1 per hour.
