IN PERSON: August Fitness Hike: Take Me to the River

This 6-mile hike will be led by master hiker, noted guidebook author and Harvard Club member Barbara Saffir. Limited to Harvard Club members and their guests.

Date: Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 9:00am - 12:30pm ET

Location: Intersection of Belle Haven Road and George Washington Memorial Parkway

We'll hike roughly 6 miles on the 18-mile Mt. Vernon trail in Alexandria, VA along the Potomac River. The hike will consist of nearly 5 miles on the paved Mt. Vernon trail and roughly 1.5 miles on the unpaved dirt/mud trail through Dyke Marsh for birds, blooms, beasts, and views. We’ll also see a DC Boundary Stone at Jones Point Lighthouse — one of America’s last rivertine lighthouses. We’ll hike at a moderate pace — about 2.5 - 3 miles

per hour — with several stops, especially at the lighthouse and through Dyke Marsh.

We will meet in the parking lot at Mt. Vernon Trail Parking lot near Dyke Marsh.

Parking

Pull into the driveway for the Belle Haven Marina and immediately turn left for the three public parking lots along the Mount Vernon Trail. We’ll meet by the public restroom building. The precise coordinates of this restroom building are 38°46'48.4"N 77°03'07.5W." If you enter this into Google you will have no difficulty finding the group. Location is at the intersection of Belle Haven Road and George Washington Memorial Parkway.
