A Dinner Conversation with Marlyn E. McGrath, Director of Admissions, Harvard College

Harvard College had more than 42,000 applicants for its class of 2022.  Why has the number of applicants increased so much?  What does it mean for admissions at Harvard and other institutions?  How does the Admissions Committee manage the process of selecting the 5% of applicants for admission?  Marlyn will discuss her experience as the Director of Admissions at Harvard College and provide insights on a wide range of topics related to college admissions generally and at Harvard specifically.
 

Since receiving her last degree Marlyn McGrath has served Harvard in various roles—in academic as well as student and administrative arenas.   Her previous appointments have included Allston Burr Senior Tutor, Lecturer on Celtic Languages and Literatures, Head Tutor in Special Concentrations, Assistant Dean of Harvard College and of FAS for Faculty Affairs.  As Director of Admissions since 1987, her work has focused on the major effort to expand access to Harvard College by talented students from the widest possible range of backgrounds. 
 

Her other institutional commitments include service as a trustee of The Winsor School, Groton School, Belmont Hill School and Roxbury Latin School.  In addition she is a trustee of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and president of the Stella Holt Foundation.
