July Saturday Social - Tour The U.S. Capitol
Join the Harvard Club of Washington DC, Harvard Alumni for Education Shared Interest Group (HAEd) and Living Classrooms, a Baltimore based non-profit that works with returned citizens, for our fourth Saturday Social.
The fourth event in our series will take place on Saturday, July 7th and will consist of a tour of the United States Capitol Building. We have secured additional spots for the tour that are limited to Harvard Club members and their guests.
We will meet at 9:45am in front of the entrance to the U.S. Capitol Visitor's Center and our tour will start promptly at 10:20am. In addition to the standard tour of the historic Capitol that includes a 45-minute guided walking tour as well as a 13-minute orientation film, we are also trying to coordinate a visit to the Galleries of both the Senate and House of Representatives.
TIPS FOR VISITING THE U.S. CAPITOL
- As parking is limited on Capitol Hill, visitors are encouraged to use public transportation to reach the U.S. Capitol. Train (Metrorail) stations and bus stops are nearby – the Union Station and Capitol South Metrorail stops are the most convenient to the Capitol.
- Visitors enter the U.S. Capitol through the Capitol Visitor Center. The entrance is located beneath the east plaza of the Capitol.
On March 3rd, we successfully launched #saturdaysocials, an ongoing monthly volunteer opportunity for Harvard Alumni to serve alongside citizens returning to society. Living Classrooms is a non-profit organization committed to strengthening communities and inspiring people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training. One such initiative provides ongoing support to aid formerly incarcerated individuals in adjusting and returning to their community. The "re-entry" initiative focuses on providing marketable work skills and experiential learning for these individuals who are struggling to succeed against terrible odds.
