Volunteer at Girls On the Run 5K (Washington, DC)

gotr_logo_dc_v3The Harvard Club needs volunteers to support participants in the Girls on the Run 5K - DC on Sunday, June 3rd from 7:00 am to 9:30 am.

Girls on the Run is an organization that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. They recognize that girls face social pressure and conflicting messages about how they should act. Studies show that by adolescence, girls' confidence drops about twice as much as boys'. Girls' perception of their academic ability declines, the likelihood of anxiety and depression increases and participation in physical activity plummets. Trained coaches lead small teams through a ten-week program where girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.

We will help with checking in runners and distributing important race day information!  Please click the link below to start the registration process. You will be contacted by the event coordinator with additional instructions to complete your registration. We are also recruiting Buddy Runners. Buddy runners will be paired with a participating girl who is in need of an adult to run with and support her. All Buddy runners must submit a background check and will meet their girl and her team the morning to the race as they get excited to run. If you are interested in being a Buddy Runner please contact communityservice@harvard-dc.org. Registration ends May 28th.
