For 131 years, Washington's Gridiron Club has regaled an annual white-tie dinner with satire and songs that skewer Presidents and congressional leaders, lobbyists, and sacred cows. The 2017 Gridiron Reprise will be Sunday, March 5, 2017, in the ballroom of the Washington Renaissance Hotel, 999 Ninth Street NW. Because the Gridiron Club is a 501(c) (3) organization, approximately $56 of the $80 will be tax-deductible as a charitable contribution.
The reception, which includes an open bar, begins at 2 p.m., the show at 3 p.m. The event ends by 4:30 p. What the HCW will see is Gridiron members -- including well-known faces that might include John Dickerson of CBS and Slate, Al Hunt of Bloomberg, Jonathan Karl of ABC, John King of CNN, Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd of NBC, and Judy Woodruff of PBS -- performing songs and skits in costume. Syndicated columnist Mark Shields relays excerpts of the speeches that were delivered the night before, which typically include remarks by the President and a leading Democrat and leading Republican. The musical performance is orchestrated by the director of the President’s Own, the U.S. Marine Band, Col. Michael Colburn.
