Founded is 1892 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 is a non-profit, non-political, women's service organization for descendents of patriots who aided the American cause during the War of 1812. The memorial library contains accounts of the War of 1812, with special collections on the role of African-Americans and Native Americans.  However, it is primarily a genealogical resource. The museum contains artifacts from the War of 1812 .  

In 1997, the property was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States.

Sarah Voll graduated from Goucher College, and earned her A.M. from the Harvard Center for Middle Eastern Studies and Ph.D. in economics from the University of New Hampshire. Following 20 years as economist and Executive Director at the NH Public Utilities Commission, she joined National Economic Research Associates, establishing electricity regulatory commissions primarily in India and Brazil.  She is a 50 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and currently serves as Librarian for the US Daughters of 1812.
