DIY Valentine's Day Care Baskets

Join the Harvard Club of Washington, D.C., Harvard Alumni for Black Advancement (HABA), and Miracle Temple Non-Denominational Church for an exciting community service initiative preparing Valentine's Day care baskets for D.C. families in need!

COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted D.C.'s Black families, especially exacerbating food insecurity and economic hardship. Miracle Temple Non-Denominational Church, which operates within the InnerCity Collaborative Community Development Corporation, works with disadvantaged Ward 7 and 8 families, particularly around improving food security and meeting basic human needs. We are partnering with Miracle Temple Non-Denomination Church to create care baskets with food and household staples.

This season, in a spirit of love, join your fellow Harvard Club and HABA members in creating Valentine's Day care baskets to support our fellow neighbor and foster community. There are multiple ways to get involved:

  1. Create a Valentine's Day Care Basket for a D.C. family. Please include the following:

  • Disnfecting Wipes or Hand Sanitizer
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Dryer Sheets
  • Lotion
  • Socks
  • Apples, Oranges, and/or Carrots
  • Granola Bars
  • Hershey Kisses
  • A Personal Note/Card

Feel free to participate at your convenience or assemble care baskets together via Zoom on Thursday, Feburary 18, 2021 from 6:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. EST. Wear red or heart-print apparel, bring snacks, and enjoy an evening of fun.

After putting them together, baskets can be dropped off at Miracle Temple Non-Demoninational Church every day between 10am and 6pm, simply ring the doorbell and ask for Ms. Allen or Ms. Evans. Miracle Temple Non-Demoninational Church will then deliver the baskets to the respective families.

Baskets can also be collected through scheduled contactless pickup. To schedule contactless pickup, please contact communityservice@harvard-dc.org

  1. Donate Items. Our Amazon Wishlist makes care basket shopping easy and fun! All items are under $40 dollars and Prime-eligible. Please make purchases by Tuesday, February 16, 2021 for on-time delivery.

  1. Sponsor a Basket. Sponsor a basket via Paypal, funds will be used to purchase care basket supplies.

Any level of involvement is greatly appreciated! If you are interested in creating a care basket, please register below and you will be contacted by the event coordinator with additional instructions. Thanks for spreading love!
