Support Sustainability and Access to Fresh Foods in Washington DC Food Deserts
Join fellow members of the Harvard Club in helping wash, fill, and seed Dutch buckets in a hydroponic hoop house at the PR Harris Urban Food Hub.
The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Urban Food Hubs exemplify the university’s commitment to building capacity across the diverse communities in our city, but especially in the food desert neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. The four components of Urban Food Hubs are food production, food preparation, food distribution, and waste and water recovery. At the heart of each urban food hub, are highly efficient food production systems that utilize bio-intensive raised bed gardens, green roofs, hydroponic, and aquaponic methods to grow plants, without soil in nutrient-rich water. The urban food hubs are designed to not only provide access to fresh food, but also to create jobs, improve public health, mitigate water management problems, and create urban resilience. Join us at PR Harris Urban Food Hub for a morning of service with a group of passionate and dedicated volunteers. No experience is necessary but volunteers must be 18 or older.
