Tour of Faig Ahmed:
Non-Visual Language at the Textile Museum - FREE

Explore Faig Ahmed’s surreal sculptures which incorporate ancient carpet-weaving techniques from his native country of Azerbaijan.

This intimate exhibition introduces new works and installations by Ahmed, inspired by Peruvian textiles in the museum’s collections and his field research in the Peruvian Amazon.

Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed is acclaimed worldwide for his conceptual, sculptural artworks that deconstruct ancient weaving traditions. We will tour Faig Ahmed: Nonvisual Language to see Ahmed’s latest artwork and the creative sources that inspired it, drawn from his study of historical Shipibo textiles in the museum’s collections and his field research in the Peruvian Amazon.

The Shipibo people—one of the largest ethnic groups in this region—paint, weave, and embroider geometric designs that they believe can channel therapeutic sounds from the spiritual world. This intimate exhibition of works that Ahmed created and studied draws parallels between pattern symbolism in woven textiles from the Shipibo and from Azerbaijan.
