Hike through Occoquan Regional Park, Stroll through Occoquan, and Visit WorkhouSE Arts Center
Hike with the Sierra Club about 7 miles largely on asphalt trails at a moderately fast pace from the wonderful WORKHOUSE ARTS CENTER (DC's former infamous Lorton Reformatory prison & the gateway to Laurel Hill's hiking, equestrian, & mountain-biking trails) downhill to OCCOQUAN REGIONAL PARK (the riverside start of Fairfax's 40.5-mile Cross County Trail & where a memorial is planned for suffragettes -- female civil rights leaders -- who were jailed nearby for demanding the right to vote) & then cross the "hidden" pedestrian-only bridge over the Occoquan River to the quaint TOWN OF OCCOQUAN. (No public transportation but hikers can message each other to arrange carpooling. WAC is open 12-5 Sundays. Public restrooms in buildings W-16, W-3, & W-11.)
