Professor Light will be speaking on "Stand Your Ground: a Feminist History of Self-Defense." In her talk, she will unpack contemporary associations of lethal self-defense with good or "law-abiding" citizenship and she will explore the intersection of gender and race in the American Armed Citizen ideal to better understand how contemporary "Stand Your Ground" laws (and culture) affect women and people of color. Professor Light's newest book, Stand Your Ground: America's Love Affair with Deadly Self-Defense, will be published in 2017.
Following her remarks, she will take questions from the virtual audience. The webinar will conclude at 8:00 pm.
Please register to attend the event by Friday, May 13th. Once you are registered, you will receive instructions on downloading WebEx, the online platform that the event will be utilizing.
In advance of the Harvard Women's Weekend this fall, the HAA and partnering Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) are organizing several related "pre-reunion" events - and you can enjoy this webinar from the comfort of your own home or with a group of alums.
